I've gotten back stuff weeks to years later, from mast extensions to a complete rig, because my name and phone number are on them.

SPID....
6 visits of minimum of 17 days.
First, 4th and last windy most days, like 14, usually 5.0 sizing, but varies as fronts approach from N or S.
Usually late Oct thru early Nov.
I know the season is spring, but AWIA shows are fall.
Speedditch most fun, as a big container ships rumbles thru, at 25mph.
Other side of canal can be really fun wavesailing.
We'd just set up and sail from N side.
Been going to AWIA and AWA shows from '85 thru '03. |

Carles, I agree SPI is great and I love it. Some of those Northers really rip full on 3.5 or 4.0 but for the most part is warm water 15 to 20 stuff that I can cruise and enjoy. For the high wind addict may not be that great.
Zirtaeb,I am curious about the swell on the other side of the channel. Is it always there or just when a big ship goes through? I'll probably head back first couple of weeks this April.
You know other places that have reliable winds and moderate prices. Must say Padre is a great place to rent housing as well as gear. |

Speed Ditch is inside the channel, riding and jumping the stern or bow waves from the ships.
S side of the 2 jetties is great on winds more Southerly, and swells seem bigger (taller, more fetch, same draggy shore), more an "adventure" than a reward of better wave sailing.
Sure beats PortAransas or that guy's beach up in Corpus. |

StillSailin, The Veloce was a more all-round fun board by BIC. If you enjoyed it that much, it probably wasn't a Vivace. In the Hip Hop era, you have the Electric Rock (103L) the Astro Rock (125L) and then the Rock and the Reggae, etc, etc. I see them for sale cheap in the gorge a couple of times each season. The tend to de-sandwich in the gorge though and fill full of water near the nose; so make sure the new old one you get isn't too heavy. I haven't been on a Hip Hop, but would love to try one, but I haven't seen them anywhere for the last few years. |
