Yes, there are vermin on both sides of the aisle, and on K street. They must all be eliminated.

Lest we forget Delay’s different roles, and think he was a minor player like Jefferson, remember that he was pretty much the face of the Republican Congress that spent so much money. House Majority leader, early backer of the Tea Party, “the hammer”, close ties to Jack Abramoff. Delay wasn’t just anti-science, he and his slimeball friends rewrote the Texas curriculum to make it a laughingstock of the country. He once blamed the Columbine massacre on the teaching of evolution. I guess bullying is just too accepted in Texas to upset anyone, huh Tom? Vermin doesn’t even begin to describe him.

Here’s what CNN had to say about him.
Quote:
Forget the freebie trips across the Atlantic and the Pacific. Forget the casinos and the allegedly illicit contributions -- they represent only degrees of avarice.
To grasp the moral bankruptcy of the public Tom DeLay, the House majority leader, you only have to know about Frank Murkowski and Saipan.
Today, Frank Murkowki is the governor of Alaska, but from 1980 to 2002, he was a conservative Republican senator from Alaska.
How conservative? His voting record earned him zero ratings from organized labor's AFL-CIO and the liberal Americans for Democratic Action, and perfect 100s from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the American Conservative Union.

But as chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Frank Murkowski became furious at the abusive sweatshop conditions endured by workers, overwhelmingly immigrants, in the U.S. territory of the Northern Mariana Islands, of which Saipan is the capital.
Because they were produced in a territory of the United States, garments traveled tariff-free and quota-free to the profitable U.S. market and were entitled to display the coveted "Made in the USA" label.
Among the manufacturers that had profited from the un-free labor market on the island were Tommy Hilfiger USA, Gap, Calvin Klein and Liz Claiborne.
Moved by the sworn testimony of U.S. officials and human-rights advocates that the 91 percent of the workforce who were immigrants -- from China, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh -- were being paid barely half the U.S. minimum hourly wage and were forced to live behind barbed wire in squalid shacks minus plumbing, work 12 hours a day, often seven days a week, without any of the legal protections U.S. workers are guaranteed, Murkowski wrote a bill to extend the protection of U.S. labor and minimum-wage laws to the workers in the U.S. territory of the Northern Marianas.
So compelling was the case for change the Alaska Republican marshaled that in early 2000, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed the Murkowski worker reform bill.
But one man primarily stopped the U.S. House from even considering that worker-reform bill: then-House Republican Whip Tom DeLay.
According to law firm records recently made public, lobbyist Jack Abramoff, paid millions to stop reform and keep the status quo, met personally at least two dozen times with DeLay on the subject in one two-year period. The DeLay staff was often in daily contact with Abramoff.

Just so you know it’s not restricted to Texas, here’s this morning’s scandal.
Quote:
A federal judge sentenced former Virginia Secretary of Finance John W. Forbes II to 10 years in prison Tuesday for defrauding the state's tobacco commission of $4 million.
Imagine my surprise to learn that Forbes was appointed by a Republican—and received little oversight from the Republicans on the State’s Tobacco Commission.

Yes Mac, there are horrible consequences to greed.

But there are even greater negative consequences to the Democrats massive takeover of the healthcare and financial industries. This socialist oligarchy will destroy all "hope" and dreams of acheiving the American dream.

Over regulation will stifle job creation. High taxes will eliminate risk takers. Government unions have become a parasite on the backs of the job creators, and the middle class.

Neal Boortz delights in asking his callers to define "greed". In a decade of listening to him, I have yet to hear anyone define it.

To save you guys some time, don't bother using the phrases "too much" or "more than one needs". Who determines either one of those? Certainly not the government.

bard--have you been drinking in bars with Matty? Your short term memory seems to be gone. If I remember correctly, the financial industry lobbied for deregulation. Gramm of Texas, a Republican, drafted the bill. Bush appointed a head of the regulatory effort who wouldn't even enforce the weak aspects of financial regulation. The result was a financial bubble that melted down the world economy? That is something you want to replicate?

Remember on taxes that we are talking about a differential rate of 3% on those that make over $500,000 a year? You think that will stop the rich from buying Ferrari's? Dude, adjust your medication!

The financial industry should have been allowed to collapse. All we've done is made the inevitable collapse worse for America and the world.

The regulation I refer to has nothing to do with banks or big industry. 80% of all jobs are created by small companies, and they are the only hope for new high paying jobs in the U.S.

I hope the jealousy toward the rich becomes so great that they confiscate Buffet's and Gate's money. They believe in this big government and I hope it comes back to bite them in their asses.

Study history and you'll see, big government has always become corrupt. Greedy corporations eventually fail also.

Soon everyone will be shorting the U.S. long bond. They will pile on like an NFL scrum. I'll be piling on too. This may take 1 year or 7 years, but it will happen, and unfortunately our economy will not withstand the greed and corruption facilitated by this government. (via bailed out financial Ind)

bard--that makes no sense except in a Don Quixote-like quest for ideological purity. The financial crisis was at last one part panic, as bank runs for the last 250 years have been. Stopping the panic allowed the true market forces to show up again. In a "perfect" world I would have liked to see the bankers punished more for bad business practices, and more effective regulation than emerged from Congress. But that perfect world would have dragged the economy far further into the weeds, with huge impacts on the small businesses you are so worried about.

Was it a good gamble? Yes, the money will be repaid with some interest.

And guess where the remaining vermin are. The City of Berkely is considering a resolution to honor Pvt Manning, the spy who stole and provided the Wikileaks government data. He and Assange should be sentenced to a duel armed with poison gas grenades in a sealed room.
