Hey guys, I don't think I've been accused of whoring out my blog for readers (hell, I don't even put ads on it), but I thought it would be fun to do some analysis of the upcoming wave event.

http://humancatapult.blogspot.com/2010/11/bracketology.html

Let me know what you think... I always feel like there is a huge gap of editorial jabber missing from our sport (a la sometimes annoying ESPN pundits) that helps build up the hype factor of the sport itself. Surfing does not have that problem, if you've ever opened up surfline.com and read the front page worth of articles and ASP coverage. PWA does have some coverage, but it's pretty self-referential stuff.

What do you think? Interesting? Waste of time/air?

If anyone wants to fill it out and mail it to me, I'll mail you something if you beat me. All bracket spots worth 1 point. Email me if you want a copy of the bracket.

That's probably the best editorial jabber I've ever seen for windsurfing. Nice work.

Nice work, Aaron!

Even the very first round has some incredibly tough picks... Seadi vs Katchadorian? Probably Seadi as his competition experience will see him through, but there could be an upset there...

Koster v Polakow- depends on what the judges are looking for- If Koster throws an air taka into the pit, Polakow's done, for sure. But I don't know if Koster can do anything like that on "starboard tack." He'll probably learn how today and then pull off a perfect one tomorrow, the kid's from outer space...

Most would choose Angulo over Voget but Klaus has been charging the last 2 years and really improving his competition game, while Angulo seems to be on the decline? I mean, he did "quit" this year... However, he does have local favor, of course

By the third round, I see Angulo, Campello, Mussolini, Seadi from the top half of the bracket. The bottom half is a bit tougher... It's too bad the two wunderkinder will face each other in the second round, as I think otherwise they'd both have a good chance to get pretty far. But I see Swift, Koster, Pritchard, Fernandez.

Fourth round? Campello, Seadi, Koster, Pritchard. Fernandez doesn't have it in him on starboard, sorry. And Campello's way hungrier than Josh.

1. Seadi
2. Pritchard
3. Koster
4. Campello

Koster is the only guy that I'm really reaching with here... But I think he's capable.

Now they just need some wind!

Can't say as though I thought Diony would beat Campello in the first round! He sailed an incredible heat though, and clearly deserved to win, in my opinion. Traversa and Mussolini are killing it, as expected...

If Angulo wins his heat against Voget, I don't think Traversa will have any problems taking him down in round 2. Gotta give Josh credit for pulling his aerials and stuff in 5-12 knots, though- that's tough with 50 pounds more than these other guys!

There are some great shots at http://pwaworldtour.com , these guys are providing great action in the sub-par 10 knot conditions!

Check a few out:

HC

I breezed thru the blog, but will only pick the final

Kai Lenny has a terrible chore with maybe the worse draw... my sentimental pick but

for the final ;

Tomas Traversa Vs that Phillip Koster

Bummer indeed... I'm still very impressed with the action that took place in 5-10 knots of wind, though!! These guys are incredible sailors and athletes.

Congrats to Victor for his first Wave Title! (Despite being won with only 2 events completed)

Maybe the PWA could come to the Hatteras stop on the US Wave Tour? I'm sure the wind would cooperate!

I have a feeling some PWA sailors will show up, but I don't think it'll be a sanctioned PWA event. The PWA is VERY open to holding competitions anywhere there's wind and water, but they have a very strict minimum operating cost for an event. I couldn't come up with anywhere close to the sponsorship dollars for a Hatteras PWA event the last time I looked into it. Speaking of which, if anyone has any big industry marketing contacts, I'd be stoked if you put in a good word for mainland USA windsurfing competition sponsorship $$s Very Happy

Andy, you should contact Marc Lefebvre. He put on the last mainland PWA event and organized the Aloha Classic for a few years. The old Cape Cod event occurred in very different economy, but companies still must advertise and promote. Think of Verizon, ATT etc. Also, windsurfers are keen on vans and trucks. Connect with a local dealer who may be able to bring in Detroit or Tokyo cash.

Also, the PWA office works hard to secure big sponsorship for the local events.
