| nw30, nice one. Schooled in history right here on the World Wide Web. The constitution can be a pain when your party is not in power, huh? But when they regain power I guess you'll become a constitutionalist again. |

Oops, it is actually the 14th amendment to the Constitution. Oh you strict cosntructionist, here it is:

nw30, I'm not sure how you feel about your presence in the USA, but I feel pretty darn good about my existence here. Of course, immigration laws of yesteryear were very different from today, but the static surrounding the propriety of those laws was remarkably similar to what we discuss today. Only we don't say out loud the things uttered back then.
My maternal great-grandparents came to this country by falsifying their names, ages and familial status in order to avoid being rejected under some strange distaste for Norwegians. Their entry into the USA might now be called fraudulent and, therefore, illegal. If you had your wish, millions of people would be deported based on the accident of history. Remember, you cannot pick your parents.
Of course, you are not alone in this view. I'm not suggesting his is good company, but that's not your fault.

I encourage you to call your Senator and suggest a repeal of the 14th Amendment. After all, what's the cost of over 600,000 lives and over 1mm injured? We fought our civil war over this very issue. I think 150 years of internal peace should be honored. Unless you are on the Texas School Board, of course.  |
