The Ice Sailing on Lake Champlain is Excellent! Because the lake is so large, different sections freeze early and late.
I Sailed the ice there for 15 years and loved it.
Usually we started riding early season on Shelburne Pond heading out toward CVU high school, then to the bays as they froze up.
Generally early season is better than late as there tends to be cleaner ice. Once the Full on winter sets in snow cover can be an issue as it is anywhere.
there are a good number of Ice Boaters that check for ice. |

I have been so spoiled sailing on Winni these last 2 weeks that when when I got on my local Cape Cod pond today...I quickly ran out of room at 50 mph and had to stop!
Nice to sail at home though.
You know, if you are someone you ACTUALLY sails on ice, then you would realize of course that strange winds caused by the land/pond shapes really don't affect your ride too much. |
