Hello,
I'm going to Cabarete for a week beginning tomorrow (not soley for windsurfing, but it would be nice). I'm staying in Sosua, and I understand it's not difficult to get to Cabarete from there. Looking at the wind forecast, it looks not too good - 15 tops most days. Does Vela have big stuff - 8 m sails and 140 l boards, so that I can plane on those 15 days? Any other tips? I'm a 50 year old, 190 lb intermediate.
Thanks!

yes, they do have big boards and sails - even some formula gear.

they also have SUP boards.

cabarete bay is often windier than the area generally, as there is a local geographic effect.

Vela Cabarete is excellent.

If it's marginal sailing, do some canyoning or surfing....pretty much the same price as renting gear. Snorkeling in Sosua isn't bad either. Make sure you research a little on how much it should cost you to get from Sosua to Cabarete if you're taking the bus...you can get friggin reamed good. Shouldn't cost more than a couple bucks.

Does anyone know a website that has historic wind data for Cabarete? I know you can get wind data here, but so far, all I have found is daily records. I would like something that is already summarized for me. Like average daily wind patterns for each month from data collected over 20 years. something like that.

Took my first lessons from these guys. Should at least give you an idea of the wind stats. They say graph is an average over 8 years. We're looking forward to a trip in March!
