Yes, Monday was great, got my adrenalin going at Sunset. I like to push my limits and find out my equipment's limit.
Today started out real slow but turned out to be a great day at T street in San Clemente.
Hey Alex, are you back for the holidays? |

Of course, you know that I was just having fun.
Still though, nothing wrong with "red eyes". Really, from my perspective, it's about much more than just appearances. |

I'm relatively certain that I'm pretty sure that I think that I know you're funnin'. Cheers. |

Hey Gabor, yea I'm back for a couple weeks, been enjoying the wind, got out today at Sunset, it was very marginal but finally picked up towards the end. That San Clemente sesh sounds like it would have been fun! |

From nws:
OTHER BIG STORY WITH THESE STORMS WILL BE STRONG SOUTHERLY WINDS.
AT THIS TIME...APPEARS THAT THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL OCCUR
ON WEDNESDAY...WHICH COULD BRING WIDESPREAD GALE FORCE WINDS
ACROSS THE COASTAL WATERS AND DAMAGING WINDS ACROSS SOME OF THE
LAND ZONES. THE STRONG WINDS WILL LIKELY BRING SIGNIFICANT WIND
WAVES. THIS IN COMBINATION WITH LARGE WESTERLY SWELL WILL LIKELY
BRING HIGH SURF CONCERNS...ALONG WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR COASTAL
FLOODING ISSUES. FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE DEVELOPING SITUATION
ACROSS THE COASTAL WATERS...PLEASE REFER TO THE LATEST MARINE
PRODUCTS THROUGH THE WEEKEND.
Let's go!! |

jpbassking wrote: | I think it will be too cold | Cold!? You wus! Its cold only when there's ice forming on your sail and can't get anywhere due to the chunks of ice floating in the water. THEN its cold.
Kidding aside, gotta say I'm glad I've got that dry-suit. It served me well in CT and I know I'll be wearing this week!
The Q for me I hope you guys can answer for this SoCal newbie is where are the "gentler" launch sites for what looks to be pretty much straight on-shore S winds with mast-eater W swells. I'm right off Sunset & PCH and have been eying the coast for a "hook" of land that might offer a calmer launch spot but don't see much. The east facing side of the point at Sunset seems like it could offer a nice launch out parallel to the rest of the shore. Depending on tide, that could be a nice place to shoot out into the white water and head out through the break on a starboard tack (perfect for my goofy foot) heading East toward Will Rogers?
Or is this where Cabrillo finally makes sense? (anyone ever launch from 40th street?) |

What is the difference between Seal Beach and Sunset Beach on a south wind? I think I might try driving down south to Sunset beach on Monday. Where is the best place to park? |

I should clarify, the Sunset beach I referred to was the one just east of Topanga, not the one south of Long Beach. If you're asking about parking at the one near Topanga, there's a lot right at the light where Sunset Blvd. ends into PCH. Otherwise, you can try to park eastbound on PCH. There's a few choice spots right next to paths, but you'd have to rig on the rocks down by the water. I've yet to sail there and am not sure where to rig, so am figuring the parking lot's the best bet.
Also, can anyone comment on sailing Topanga in a S with large surf? Seems like you could launch just east of the point and sail east following the break until you've cleared the zone? |
