Anyone sailed the Exocet S-Cross 145 with a Curtis weed fin? I've read these boards are fin sensitive so wanted to check out before I consider purchasing the board. If you have used a Curtis Weed Fin on this board, what size and how was the performance? Thanks.

I've sailed the 140 with a 6.7 and a True Ames shallow water weed 44cm with a truncated tip. All I can say is, Fun! Decent upwind performance, quick, planes up nicely. The only problem I had was going too fast upwind over decent size windswell would spin out the fin. Easy to do when airborne.

Also sailed the 160 version with a way too small 35 cm fin and a 7.8 Still made it work just couldn't pressure the fin much.

There's a medium build guy whose name I don't remember who returned to windsurfing, here locally, after a long break who bought one. He's all smiles about that board, no matter what fin he uses. Quite often he deploys a weeder. I've warned him not to become too used to weeders, as I have on these forums. Any way to sail the Gulf to avoid weeds? Seen far too many use them so often as to become dependent on them when no weeds are around. Slower top end and poor turns are the result. Yup, they do plane early, but at the price of top ending way slower. Yup, I know some venues have weeds more often then not, but please take every opp to avoid using them.

I have the S cross 130, I have a wide range of weed fins to choose from. I don't have any curtiss weed fins. I've had good performnce with the older Finworks, Tangent Reaper series, and more often I use the Wardog Weed fin. In fact I'm fairly confortable in just leaving the WarDog fin on and Sailing. I have it in 12" and 10".
I have several custom cutiss fins and really like them.

Scross 145 seems to be a good board! See dealer.

I don't know if the slower top end is always true. I recently tested a Curtis weed fin on my AHD 160l, and got the same GPS speeds (within 1-2 mph) as with the standard Fin's Racing 54 cm fin. The 2 fins are about the same length, but the weed is of course angled. I found the weed fin easier to sail, the 54 cm straight like to ride up too much. It therefore feels faster, but the GPS speed showed very similar (and pretty good) speed.

I've seen my own speeds suffer. Conversely, I've helped others change their sailing techniques to see the before and after effects enough to say with confidence that weeders are slower. They get people to comfortable with riding on their back foot way too much. That means slower most times. Also, more often than not, lots of these same folks when on standard fins tend to use too much that way too.
