We had perfect conditions for casual racing...sail sizes mid fives to mid sevens...sunny skies and a whole lot of fun. Based on the turnout, the enthusiasm, and the after-race refusal of anyone to go home (we'd all just had too much fun) the organizers promise more racing events on Long Island.

You've got a great windsurfing community there! It seems like you're bringing back the excitement of the early days of windsurfing.

I still have a collection of t-shirts from the all the regattas and crossing that I did back in the day. They are time capsules from a carefree world.

Basically we've got a core group who are willing to hold an event in any wind strength, and this loosens things up. And everybody puts a premium on fun, so the competition is more playful than hardcore (though in the actual races, folks are going for it!)

We had good t shirts and sweatshirts, too. And pumpkins!
