Guys, is there a site with wind statistics for Hatteras? What about water/air temps? I am thinking of going there this fall for a week or so and would like to pick the optimal time.
Thanks! |

If you are interested in Wind Stats for Hatteras based on previous years, likely the best bet is to check the "blog archives" for both OBX Beach Life and Lost in Hatteras.
www.lostinhatteras.com
www.obxbeachlife.com
OBX Beach Life spans though 2006 and with the Calendar Control located in the top right corner of the web page, you can check out previous days/months/years for the reports from the interested time period. Note, however that past data is does not guarantee future experiences; however, if you are coming to Hatteras in the Fall, overall you are likely going to experience some wind.
Main consideration for Hatteras Fall windsurfing and timing though, is whether you want to wear a full wetsuit or not mainly for air temp. The water stays warm in Hatteras though December. |

I had a great time in OBX!!
The wind was very light, but following Andy's advice (Sailworld Hatteras/HIB), rented a Starboard Serenity for three days. I was able to launch from the back of the house into the sound side!
Warm water, warm air and beautiful scenery.
That board is definitely a different experience. Gliding silently through the water, faster and faster until the nose comes up and starts planing.
Had three great afternoon sessions.
Can't wait to get back!!!!!!! |

Glad you had some fun out there, Sergio! The wind sure was light, so the Serenity (or a surfboard) was the right call.
See ya next time! |
