Wish me luck! ACL reconstruction.

So be warned, there may be a significant increase in the number of posts from me as I sit on the couch for the next few days...

I am hoping I will be ready for board tests on Maui in October. Fingers crossed.

Would be interested to hear from windsurfers who have had this surgery before. I know there have been a few threads on it in the past, so I'll do some searching when I get home. (Well, maybe tomorrow.)

Sweet! I look forward to reading your heavily medicated thoughts.

Good luck with the slicing and dicing!

Josh,
Good luck. That type of surgery usually requires the use of a knee brace-often custom made-to continue and physical activity. It shouldn't slow you down other then adding a minute of prep time putting on the brace.

good luck Josh, I tore ACL, MCL and meniscus (damn soccer game) back in 2003 and was back to sports very quick, about 7 months almost full throtle. I decided to go with a cadaver graft (allograft) for the ACL reconstruction, my doctors were excellent (SF Memorial Hospital Sports Center) and had plentu of experience attaching a cadaver graft to my own joint. No knee brace with allograft.

The first two days after surgery were a biatch, make sure you get the ice maker for the swelling and the muscle electric stimulator so that you don't lose a lot of leg muscle while you are down.

Take your PT very seriously, I didn't skip a single day in the gym for 6 months, that is what really brought me back...stationary bike is your best friend.

good luck!

Enrique

i am rocking the ice machine right now...i am going to be a CHAMP about PT. i spent hours on the bike prepping for surgery plus swimming laps...i am going to get back in the pool and on the bike ASAP.

My doctor was very good, he's the doc for the Orlando Magic... I did an allograft too.

OK, time for the CPM machine!

One of the Washoe sailors is in today for knee whatever depending on findings also. Stepped off his board messing around with a helitack, water is shallow and came down wrong just a few days ago. Now surgery, hope it's just cart as ortho hopes it is... But has had several knee surgeries already. Best of luck to both.

Apparently he got off easy, just some ragged cartilage, lucky. Get better Josh.

Scott is back sailing at Washoe already. He's done incredibly well.

Not so sure you'll be ready by october but..
I had ACL reconstr. 15-18 yrs ago- I remember the rehab was tough, but I don't use a sports brace and have been throwing big jumps at the coast ever since, with only a little arthritis once in a while. Although have been having a hard time convincing myself to stay in the straps on the big back loops because of the nose 1st landings..

(47 yr old now) yikes

Just wondering how the surgery went. And if your back to yourself again.

I hope everything worked out well.
