I joined him soon after the pic was taken, one of the best (and warmest) days of the year, even if it was Hatteras in April....

Outcast thanks for posting.
This biggest day of 09 for me.
some heavy waves. Wind was a good direction to go front side but facing the wave was a bit scary.
First time I ever sailed there.
I think I had 3 big swims befor I figured out how to make it work
Gear was 4.7m North Ice and 76L JP RWW.
Called Evans but he was too chicken to go.
My first NewJ cover. Picture by Rick. Thanks
Peter

Hey now... the locals DO have to work... Sometimes, at least...
I'm confused- you guys are saying cover shot? The box of NEWJs that I received at the shop all have a sunset pic on the cover. I haven't received my personal subscription copy yet, though, so maybe there was a second run with a few changes.
Looked pretty gnarly out there, anyway! Nice work Peter, just getting off the beach can be a challenge in those conditions! As for going down the line- If you oversheet and drop the mast into those DTL bottom turns your sail will go mostly weightless and your rail should grip a little better, making it a little less scary to face that wave head on... Gotta commit to it, though...

Ok, Maybe not the cover
I do not get the Newj someone told me the picture was in there.
Thanks for the tip Andy. I have no trouble with the comitment for bottom turns or going for the lip on top tuns, but I did run away from the lip more than a few times that day.

I just wanted you to have all the glory that day. It was your first Hatteras trip so I wanted you to leave on top of the world so you may think about going back next year.

i hear ya on the work load Andy.
unstated policy is here is not to tease if missing it for $.
Merciless ridicule follows however if you miss cause you are a wuss, or hungover after going to an Aerosmith concert
