We officially launched an iPhone app today. It's called "Wind Alert" even though it doesn't do alerts yet (because Apple keeps delaying their push infrastructure). There are lots of other things it *doesn't* do yet too (meteograms, human forecasts, tides, maps). But it does wind reports and graphs pretty well, and we wanted to get something launched as soon as possible. Please keep that in mind if you give it a rating or a review. Those other features are being developed now!

yes, the iphone supports our wap or wireless website. It also supports the full (www) website reasonably well. This app is not yet a replacement for the wap site. It's a first step toward that, though. We think many users will find the iphone app easier and faster than browsing wap or the full website from the iphone.

Thank you - Looks good!
Does it work okay under iPhone 3.0? I an not running the beta.
A Wind Obs Map in landscape mode would be nice, too...

The app is great, I'm certain that with time you will add all the features of the full web site (maps, tides, forecasts).
One thing I would like is an option (on the settings page) to not see the wind graphs, just the present bar graph on the favorites page for refresh speed reasons.
I'm certain for those of us with Edge only or anyone with bad reception this should make reading of the wind an order of magnitude faster.

Thanks for the app, it's really good

Louis

I'm confused ... again ... why nobody's talking about WAP.

The home page on my archaic cellphone is today's iW wind graph and the last three hours' data at my favorite Gorge launch, courtesy of WAP via iW. When I turn it on the phone or click the refresh button --- whatever that is -- there's the new graph and data in a few seconds. WAP is that fast, and 3G is not even involved. NOAA WAP is even quicker. I don't even access iW's website except to tell it what iW data I want on my cell phone home page.

Google WAP, and if necessary, ask iW about it.

Perhaps because the topic is about the iPhone app Wind Alert.

Mike, I think the answer to the question "wap or iphone app?" is "it depends on the user." Some will find the iphone app eye candy, others will find it indespensible. Personally, having used wap for six years now (after tearfully setting my pager on a shelf - we lost the pager in Florida several years before the elsewhere), I thought the same thing when someone first suggested an iphone app: what's wrong with wap? But after getting an ipod touch (which is basically an iphone without the phone) exclusively to test our app in the office, I find myself wishing I had a wifi connection in the car - and sometimes wishing I had an iphone.

But wap is not going away - mainly because there are too many other devices out there that we don't have the resources to create native apps for.

feuser, it has been tested under the 3.0 beta OS (a requirement of Apple now). Yes, the app is screaming for maps. Look for that in a future update - after we get more forecast data in there.

All sensors are showing temporary down on my iPhone.

Come to think of it, the SFO sensor's been down, only on the iApp, for a couple of days. I can get current info from iWindsurf and NOAA. Maybe something's gone wonky.
I rebooted the iPhone. Same sensor down note. The rest of my favorites are showing current info.

iPhone 3G
