These are photos I shot at the Hatchery. What the photos don't show is the incredible LENGTH of Dale's jumps. Yea they are high but most people who jump high end up almost falling out of the sky and land tail first.
Dale's trajectory very different and he lands with barely any speed lost.

Mike,
Please tell me that these are not from this year. Dale is wearing boardshorts and a lycra top. I wouldn't think the Gorge is near that warm.....

For those of us who don't make it to the Gorge, this video of Cook is a great reminder of the incredible conditions there, that make the Gorge the choice of so many windsurfers of where to live... I windsurf in the SFO bay and on Maui, and there is really nothing like that there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DF-MZR4ccX0

An expert Gorge bud's wife is a Maui native. Her parents coax them out to Maui every year to their windward shore home, but my bud has laid out one hard rule: not during the Gorge's warmer 8 months. He doesn't want to miss one day of Gorge sailing. That's the same reason I don't go to Maui any more and a big reason I live where I do: their seasons coincide too closely.
NOW IF IT WOULD JUST BLOW HERE ...

Dale Cook is an awesome Gorge sailor! His jumps remind me of the way the legend himself, Robby Naish, used to jump 10-15 years ago.. Robby was doing those "levitating for a while and traveling far forward" type jumps...I believe in his RIP video you can see him do that even in light wind on giant slalom gear.
I haven't seen Dale Cook sail in Maui, but one must wonder if he can rip in waves too, not to mention JAWS, as "THE LEGEND" can...

I always got a kick out of watching Bruce P. appear to level off in mid-air, well above the rest of the jumpers, pumping madly with his rig horizontal as though choosing his touchdown spot, then setting it down gently at speed, yet almost immediately thereafter exploding in a huge white wall that obscured him. Just as I assumed he'd eaten one, he'd come roaring out of the splash at full speed traveling back in the direction he'd just come from on the other side of everything. It was just another jibe for him.
