During windy weekends the website is unresponsive and Wendy is dead. This has been a problem for several months, and seems to be getting worse now that the wind's picking up. |

Whenever you post something here the posted date is sometimes a one day ahead of the actual date. At lease on this side of the world. Today is 10/23/09 on my side of the world in CA. Also if they were told to do backups and maintenance at night that would be daylight here. |

OK, almost exact same symptoms this AM as yesterday. Seems to imply it's not due to weekend/wind user server overload? Quite annoying - hope someone is on this. David |

I used to know Jim when he still ran the place and there was a David who did the software. I wonder where the mail goes that says webmaster now?
I feel they owe us and explanation and a time schedule for getting this fixed. |

isobars must have missed Mike Godsey's early post.
I'm wondering about isobars' March 31 deadline for iWindsurf to resolve website issues to his satisfaction. He has threatened earlier to quit if he's not happy by the end of the month. |

Hi folks.
No hardware or sysadmin has been outsourced! Jim and I are still here. And we're painfully aware of the server issues that continue to plague us. The latest issues kept three of us from getting out in the 20 kts of wind that visited central Florida this weekend (a far-too-uncommon occurrence). So, we literally feel your pain.
There's nothing that should have increased demand on our systems this year, and increased traffic is not the issue. Year-to-date traffic is up about 20% over last year and has especially picked up in the last few weeks, but that's low compared to July, and it's certainly no excuse - we try and operate at or below 50% capacity, and we are clearly failing that goal so far.
We completely agree that the current situation is unacceptable. The Florida team is working around the clock to identify the issues and correct them. It's been a bit like playing whack-a-mole though: as soon as we smack one down another one pops up. It's not just a hardware issue, nor is it a simple piece of code that's causing the problems. Here are the things we're doing:
1. Doubling our web server capacity.
2. Increasing our bandwidth by 5x.
3. Replacing our load balancer, which is having problems we cannot explain.
4. Upgrading our fileservers with bigger, stronger, faster ones.
5. Removing all "beta" code and any other code added in the last six months that has not been thoroughly tested.
6. Adding more layers of instrumentation and monitoring to all systems.
Thanks for bearing with us. And yes, if anyone has specific advice, please PM me.

Thanks for thorough response - guess Mike was wrong in this case that you weren't paying attention. OTOH, much of what you are proposing sounds like you also believe you need additional capacity? In any case, Good Luck. David |
